Hi all--
K2 3547 is on the air! I just got it out on 20m CW and made 4 QSO's:
UA6CD first call, OK1US, UR5HAC and N7QT (in Seattle, my QTH is Boston).
Antenna is a buddipole currently set up indoors. Yep, I'd say it works!
All in all the base kit went together fairly painlessly. I made one goof
on installing a cap in the wrong place, but a quick call to elecraft and
~15 min of signal tracing solved that one. L10 turned out to have some
issues with the screw in the middle of the inductor. The threads seems
to be pretty tight. This caused the plastic tuning tool to bend and not
engage the screw slot when I tried to align the BPF. I ended up
whittling down the end of a chopstick with a scalpel and used that to
adjust L10 (no joke).
On that note, should I order a new L10 inductor in case I ever have to
come back to retune that BPF? Will I ever need to retune it?
I didn't think I'd have this much fun building it. I'd say I'm a little
behind the curve. It took me perhaps closer to 55 hours to construct,
though I went much faster after I got confident.
Next up I'm going to start building the options. I leave for a job in
South America at the end of the month and will be there for the fall so
I'm trying to get this project more or less done beforehand. Will
probably install KSB2/K160RX/KDSP2 (when it comes) before KPA100. Thanks
to Elecraft for all the great support, and occasional handholding over
the phone!!!
