[Elecraft] MH2 Installation Question

I am at the point where I want to connect my newly acquired MH2 to my K2.  I
see in the instructions that I should install a 5.6K resistor between pins 1
& 6 on the rear of the connector on the Front Panel Board.  Why would I not
want to install this resistor inside the Microphone connector?

I understand the basic need for the resistor.  However, I would like to keep
my K2 generic and allow the microphones to configure the rig.  I already
have the jumpers installed straight across.  I expect that this resistor
will cause a problem for my other microphone.  I would have expected that
this resistor would belong either inside the microphone connector on the end
of the cord, or on the configuration header, not directly on the connector.

I'm just wondering what kind of trouble I might cause myself by placing it
inside the connector body.
