[Elecraft] Question on signal tracing

Hi Terry,
From what I've read here, there is a good chance you won't have to do any
signal tracing. Most problems with the K2 can be found by doing resistance
and voltage checks. The noise generator could be used as a signal source
for tracing. You can start at the audio stage and work toward the front end
to find a break in the signal path. In this case you don't need the RF
probe.
Of course the 10MHz oscillator doesn't cost much and you can combine it with
a couple of divide by 10 logic circuits to make a nice 100KHz marker
generator. I combined a marker generator and noise generator in one unit.

Subject: [Elecraft] Question on signal tracing
Hello All,
While waiting for a replacement RFC 13 for my K2 (I broke the first one), I
read farther in the manual about signal tracing.
The manual suggests using a circuit with a 10 Mhz crystal, however earlier I
purchased one of the broadband noise generator board from the Arizona
Sqrpions ( because I always knew I'd get a K2 sooner or later). My question
is this: Can the broadband noise generator used for setting filters also do
adequate duty for signal tracing, or should I get a 10 Mhz crystal and build
the suggested circuit?
