One of the advantages of being able to send and decode CW using the brain
only, is that it requires no extra equipment to set up when working
portable. So operating a K1 whilst hanging from a cliff edge is much easier.

Despite my consuming interest in HF working, CW using brain-only has eluded
me for over 15 years. (I was thirty then I got my UK class B ) and I have
always found learning morse extremely difficult. After about 5 minutes of
listening practice I need 3 tylenol and 10 cups of coffee to overcome the
headaches and the wave of tiredness. Nevertheless, I am persisting. Building
my K1 and looking forward to using it has helped spur me on with the
practicing.
I have mild numeric and written dyslexia, and I've often wondered whether
that contributes to my particular CW-learning problem. The written dyslexia
has never been a barrier - I've had three books published! To help with word
spelling I use spelling tools. Similarly, for me, programs like CWGet act as
morse tools if I just want to be a SWL'er and listen to what is going on on
the bands.
