A few ops seem to be missing the point of the huge-signal mod.  It is not to help rejection of off-frequency in-band signals.  It is to limit the gain for huge signals on the exact frequency you are tuned to.  This could occur, for instance, if you were in a 3 way QSO and one of the STNs was very close (5 meters?)  to yours...or if you tune to  your next door neighbor's QRO signal.
