What'd be REALLY neat would be to engrave the call directly into the
front=20
panel, then fill with enamel... probably more difficult than merely
writing=20
about it though... <G>

If one does engrave the panel as Tom suggests, there is another way to
fill the letters in...Any good office supply (Staples for one) sells the
old fashioned grease pencils, the ones with the string on them to strip
off the paper shell...They are known as "china markers"...After the panel
is engraved you heat it slightly with a heat gun or hair drier then
flow/melt the China marker into the etching...When it cools, you buff it
with a cloth, removing the excess grease...The engraving will be left
filled with the grease...The pencils come in a variety of colors...This
is the method I use when restoring vintage equipment...It is particularly
effective on knobs...
