I agree with you, Julian.  I think the most I've run on my Kenwood rig 
(and it is rated at 100 W for RTTY) is around 40 W.

But your msg reminds me of a singular PSK31 QSO I had  The fellow, in 
Chicago, had a different approach: 500 Watts into a not very good antenna.
