Without wishing to add to the (now finished) thread about 100w rights and
wrongs, just wanted to add my 2 penn'orth (2 cents - whatever...) about my
recently completed KPA100. My hearty congratulations to Wayne, Eric and the
team ! - I think I enjoyed this every bit, if not more, than my K2. If
anyone is in two minds about adding the amplifier, my recommendation is go
for it! The engineering is absolutely spot on, and it is a real pleasure to
build - doesn't matter how often I will crank it up to its massive 100w, in
my eyes the price was worth it for the pleasure of building and pride of
ownership alone.
Now then, about the Tranverter option........ I note with interest that the
Down East Microwave website is extolling the virtues of the K2 as an 'IF'
(ooh err hope this doesn't upset the 'don't use your K2 for anything but HF
QRP brigade'...) and is now producing a modified 144MHz transverter (purely
for driving microwave transverters) and a transverter interface that plugs in
to the K2. I really hope that this doesn't make the Elecraft Tranverter
option even less likely. C'mon Eric and Wayne, please please can we have the
Elecraft option that will do justice to the K2 and its very clever firmware?
That aside, thanks for a tremendous product. Awareness of the K2 in the UK
will probably increase now thanks to an excellent article in December's (02)
Practical Wireless by Neill Taylor G4HLX.
Regards and Happy New Year to all.
