[Elecraft] This mixer may interest some

John, I have not experienced any problem driving the mixer line inputs from
the speaker output of any of my rigs. No mods are required. There is no
issue here of critical matching or optimum signal transfer.
The operational drawback to NOT having a constant amplitude line-level
output from the radio is that you have to make sure that the AF Gain control
is set appropriately so that you do not overdrive the mixer input stage. The
802A, and probably the 602A (just don't recall) has an overload LED that
comes on if the input signal level is excessive. Other than having to keep
an eye on that, I have found nothing else on the negative side.
In any event, it takes only a minute or two to try it and see if there will
be a problem. Thus far, over a couple of years with several different radios
and two different mixers, I have not observed any ill effects from
connecting the speaker output directly into the line input of the mixer.
There may be subtle frequency response issues involved here, but none that I
can detect.

How does the 602 or 802 handle the speaker level input? I have also been
thinking about using one speaker that is driven by all of my rigs but I
would rather
not have to modify the rigs that don't have a line level output so I would
prefer to
drive the mixer with the speaker output from each rig.
