Hello fellow Elecrafters - as this is my first post and first
significant kit building experience I thought I would share with
everyone my experience this first week with my K2 kit. As I had some
anxiety with the scale of this project I decided to do a careful job
with the parts inventory that I think has paid great dividends. I'd be
interested to learn from other first-time builders to compare notes.
During the inventory, I used a large number of "coin envelopes"
(purchased at at an office supply store) to store like parts and the
part information was recorded on the envelope. I stored the envelopes
in a plastic parts bin for easy access while building, and kept all
control board, front panel board, etc. grouped together as it had been
packaged at Elecraft. This made the assembly of the control board and
front panel board a breeze.
In the wee hours of this morning I completed the "Alignment and Test,
Part 1" and everything checked out fine! This was an absolute thrill to
see "my" little creation come to life. There's lots of work yet to do,
but for what it's worth for anyone out there with trepidations about
taking on a project like this I say GO FOR IT! Just be sure to take
your time and invest a significant amount of time with the inventory
because it really pays off.
Best regards to all on the reflector ... I've already learned alot from
all of you.
