Temperature drift was an issue on my K2 without the KPA100 and was even
more of an issue after adding the KPA100.

KI6WX's latest drift mod, which is now in beta test, completely cured the
VFO (PLL) drift in my K2.  Just wait until that mod is released by
Elecraft.  It won't be necessary to separate the K2 from the KPA100.

You should also replace the toroid in the BFO circuit with the new one
provided by Elecraft which cures the temperature drift in the BFO
circuit.
