We'll be revising the KX1 S-meter alignment procedure in the manual for the next
manual printing. Meanwhile, this should be of help:
The SIG menu values I use are H=3 and L=76 (the H parameter, scale, is set up by
tapping the 1 and 2 buttons; the L parameter is adjusted by turning the VFO
knob). This results in an S-9 indication with our XG1 receiver test oscillator
in the 50-microvolt position. Slightly different settings may be necessary on
individual KX1s, but this is a good starting point. There are a few things to
keep in mind when doing the S-meter calibration:
1. If you have a 50-ohm signal generator such as the XG1 connected, put the
KXAT1 ATU, if installed, into "CAL" mode using the ATU menu entry. Tune the
receiver to find the test signal (7040 in the case of the XG1).
2. Make sure the KX1 is in S-meter display mode (hold the two buttons labeled
DISPLAY to switch between normal, battery voltage, and S-meter display)
3. Each time you make a small change to the SIG menu entry parameters, you'll
need to exit the menu and wait a few seconds to see what the new S-meter reading is.
