There is a third option which many of us old-timers prefer.
Turn off the AGC, turn up the audio gain and turn down the
rf gain.  Control the voume with the rf gain.
Give it a try and see what you think.

Hello fellow Elecrafters,
Maybe a stupid question, what AGC time constant on the K2 is the best
for CW?
With fast AGC noise popped up, with slow AGC sometimes a character gets
into the noise if  QSB is on the signal. But thats better than the noise
between the dits and dahs. ;-)
What did you prefer?
