Very interesting discussion with (of course) no one right or wrong!

But I think Vic has hit the problem on the head in saying that the aerials
are used on receive as well as transmit.   We take (or should take) great
pains in getting our aerials as far away as possible from QRM, so what's the
point in picking up the QRM on the feeder?

Concerning the vertical aerial system... why worry about 7dB loss when the
mismatch will perhaps increase the noise picked up by 20dB.   Those figures
taken from my two 40m verticals, one 70 degrees from the shack window and up
the tower and the other on my other tower 200 ft away and in the clear.
