Dave,
I don't think you should assume no tuner losses.=A0 The LDG is a fine little=

tuner, but it would take a XL of +530 ohms to tune the antenna on=20
160.=A0 Even with toroid coils, that's proportionally a lot of wire loss.=
=A0 I=20
was able to improve the efficiency of the over all system on a 45' vertical=20
on 160 by using both linear loading and a top hat loading.=A0 Cuts down the=20
necessary Xl to load it, and the antenna R should go up a bit.
Dave: Even if the LDG effective loss resistance is 10 ohms on 160 meters it=20
doesn't matter much with ground loss dominating. And I agree that top loadin=
g=20
is the way to go. But, the Titanex isn't designed to take any additional=20
structures without guying. But as a simple whip it will make contacts. I=20
investigated feeding it with RG213 (90 deg and 180 deg lengths) and the loss=
is=20
horrendous! 450 ohm open line looks good on the simulations. I will crank th=
ru this and=20
see what the cost in signal is and what type of balun specs are needed. A=20
simple way to go is a simple base loading coil on 160 and 80. Perhaps a seri=
es=20
cap (100 pF) on 40 will work. Then it can be fed with coax and the tuning=20
tweaked by the K2 in the shack. Of course, one has to run outside in the sno=
w to=20
change bands.
