Walter,

I thoroughly agree with Dave. I just finished a K2, & I am so glad. Yes,
the 2D fasteners will have to go on & off between testing & soldering, well
worth the small annoyance.

If I did not use the Vise, I think construction complexity would have been
enormous. The only other item I would add about vises is for soldering
ground leads to the sides of the crystals. I soldered the leads to the
cases first & then inserted all. I used a small vise with rubber jaws that
held the crystals on edge with the solder point facing upwards. I then
solved the key problem of not having three hands!!

I used a small device that I had purchased years ago. It has a weighted
base with an arm that has alligator clips on the end. Take a lead with a
little "L" bend & place this in the clip. Position this lead so it is
vertical with a slight downward pressure on the convex point of the crystal
case where the solder joint will be. After an easy solder connection, just
bend the lead to fit the board spacing. If care is given as to where the
soldered lead should be with respect to the board, this method can exactly
put the lead on the crystal as required.

Good Luck
