Bob,

First thing, check soldering, then check soldering, and check soldering
again.  After you have done that, check the component markings in the
immediate (electrical) area for correct values - make certain the values
agree with the schematics (as modified).  Also check for little solder
'whiskers' in the areas where you removed components for the mods.
