Denny,
I figure it this way: $15 of lithium's give over 20 hours of use. 75 =
cents and hour isn't too bad. With alkalines I figure I can get 10 hours =
for $2 of Rayovacs for only 20 cents an hour. But, for those who do like =
rechargables, but want a full 3 watts, I have something for you. I'm =
working on a small switcher that will double the NiMH voltage and then =
linear regulate it to 12 volts. Of course this halves the effective AH =
rating to begin with and then chops operating time further by upping the =
TX current. But, I estimate operating time of >10 hours with this =
approach.=20

Subject: [Elecraft] KX1 7.2V. Performance?
I was very interested in buying a KX1 until I saw that even though it's
rated at 7 volts minimum, the recommended minimum voltage is 8 volts. =
Would
somebody tell me what the drawbacks would be if I bought one and used =
NiMH's
in the battery pack? I wouldn't care if it didn't put out more than a =
watt.
Thanks,
