[Elecraft] K1 CW memory issue

The recent thread on K1 keyer modes reminded me...

Long ago, I attempted to record CW into my keying memories, but was
unsuccessful. Every time, the resulting playback had no spaces between
characters or words. I tried natural spacing and exaggerated spacing while
recording with the same results. To date it's an unsolved mystery. Anybody
else have that experience?

I eventually sold the paddles I was using and went back to my trusty bug,
but I plan to get replacement paddles soon and will be working on those
memories again. Any guidance before the fact will be appreciated.
