[Elecraft] matched crystals?

Hi

The 14 matched set is for older K2s where you are doing the 2.5KHz =
bandpass mod and the CW filter grounding mod at the same time or just =
want to improve the filter response and ripple. The crystals in the SSB =
and CW filter are not used at the same time so it is ok to have =
different matching numbers as long as the crystals are matched to each =
other in either but not necessarily both. The new matched crystals are =
more closely matched than the older ones so changing them all out and =
using the improved grounding in the CW filter may reduce the filter =
ripple and improve the response on both the SSB and CW. The 2.5KHz SSB =
bandwidth usually requires the better matched crystals. If you are doing =
the 14 crystal mod then it it is much easier to do the 2.5KHz mod when =
the crystals on the SSB module are removed. If the K2 filters look good =
on spectrogram and everything adjusts ok then you may not want to change =
out the crystals. It is a lot of work and it does not improve anything =
if the crystals you have are matched fairly well. If this K2 serial =
number is above 3000 then you have the better matched crystals in the =
kit and do not need to change them

  Subject: [Elecraft] matched crystals?

Moderately stupid question: so I'm building a K2 for someone who, when =
he
ordered the kits, thought the 14 matched crystals sounded like a good =
idea,
which leaves me with more choices than I wanted. The K2 and KSB2 =
filter
crystals aren't the same (one set is marked 3.6 and one's 3.7). The =
matched
set is 14 3.7s. Is there any value in having the same values in both =
the CW
and SSB filters, or should the matched 14 go back to Elecraft?

Seems to me that the only effect of matching all 14 would be for the =
xfil
control paremeter numbers to more closely match between SSB and CW for
similar passbands, and since those numbers aren't meaningful by =
themselves,
there's no point...? but then why does elecraft sell 14 matched =
crystals?
