My KX1 is more or less completed. That is, completed barring some
outstanding issues.

 1. Keying on 40m sounds OK, with slight thumping,
keying on 40m has no tone at all, just thumping. This is on a reference
receiver with short wire antenna, in the headphones on the KX1 audio =
sounds
fine.

>Are you showing RF output from the KX1? If so, I suspect
>your aux receiver is either tuned to zero beat or=20
>to the wrong sideband. Did you tune your aux receiver=20
>around? If so, then the KX1 must be WAY of frequency=20
>for some reason. Is RIT on the KX1 turned OFF? IF not,=20
>the frequency on the display is NOT your transmit=20
>frequency.=20

2. Audio seems quite low, I run the AF Gain on max
permanently. Injected sidetone is much better, so probably receive
sensitivity rather than audio amp?

>Several people have run into this. In each case that I
> know of it has been corrected with the proper phones/earbuds.=20
>Some are far more sensitive than others.=20

3. When tuning into dummy load, it says power 4.5W,
r9.9 This dummy load measures an exact 1:1.0 on my MFJ analyzer.

> This means your ATU SWR bridge is not working properly. That=20
> must be fixed before you can get any meaningful results
> from antennas.=20

4. Transmitting into my vertical on 20m, tunes to
4.5W, r1.3 (which is about right) on 40m the vertical is a very bad =
match,
the tuner says P0.5, r1.7

> Because of 3. above, the ATU is accomplishing what it=20
> THINKS is a match, but unless the bridge is working=20
> properly, you can be sure the antenna is not=20
> properly matched to the rig.=20

Anyway, don't know which of these are related, but I am awaiting the
collective list wisdom with bated breath!
