[Elecraft] Elecraft: My CW Progress

My Elmer, K0JDB was a railroad telegrapher....and a Navy Radio Operator during the big one, WWII.

Ray could have a conversation with me...and type at the same time while he copied high speed radio traffic on the Navy MARS net. (The group he was into, were old seahands and handled high speed traffic). He would type and type and type, talk and talk and talk and never missed a dit or a dah, asked for fills, or missed our discussion.

I visited Ray at work while he was on the Santa Fe message desk. He did the same thing.

Here is what will cook your noodle...(was that from the Matrix?) ....He could do it in either International Morse Code...or American Morse Code.

From that, I got into NTS CW Traffic handling for years, and then into contesting.

I always stand in awe of his ability and at the age of 15 vowed that someday I would be at least half that good. (I saw no reason to learn American Morse Code.) I do not think that I have achieved a quarter of what I saw Ray do on a daily basis.
