Something to remember in using these kind of adapters is to get the 
latest driver (from the producer's website).

It was not until I installed the latest driver for my USB to serial 
adapter that I could get Flexnet to talk to my TNC over this adapter. 
(The type number is MT608-2 and it came with my HP notebook. It appears 
to use an FTDI chip and that is where I got the latest driver. Some 
driver parameter tweaking was also necessary.)

Some of the other packet radio setups that I tried did work with the 
driver version provided by HP, which means that having one application 
work OK is not necessarily a guarantee for problem-free operation with 
other applications.
