Try contacting W8JI, Tom Rauch (hope I spelled that right).
His email address is on his page at QRZ.com.
Tom has done a lot of this type of 160m harmonic hunting on the
east coast. He may be able to give you some useful tips.
One thing that strikes me is that for this to be a second
harmonic, the station would have to be on 905 kHz. At least
our BC stations are on 10 kHz steps. Don't know if Mexico and
and Central America use 5 kHz offsets. If a third harmonic,
it would be worse, 603.3 kHz. Doesn't make sense at this point.
Hmmm. How accurate is your frequency readout on 160m? Probably ok,
since you said the 900 kHz station's harmonic is on 1800, as expected.
One possibility is it is a pirate BC station. I understand they
try to shoehorn in between the licensed BC stations.
Try winding a quick 4 or 5 turn loop on a piece of cardboard, tune it,
and see if you can DF this station. At least having a bearing line
on it will narrow the search some.
One last thing, try an antenna tuner or homebrew bandpass filter ahead
of your receiver to be certain it is not internally generated, mixing
from some other frequency.
Good luck and 73

Subject: [Elecraft] OT: 160 M QRM
I know it's off topic, but someone will have the answer: I'm bothered by
a strong station on 1810 KHz (I'm in Fresno CA). I thought it was a BC
harmonic, but the local station is on 900, and their harmonic is on 1800
where it should be and is very weak. The station on 1810 seems to be
broadcasting music in Spanish. It's strong enough to prevent me from
using an swr analyzer to adjust my 160M antenna, and it makes 1805-1819
unusable. Yes, I hear it on my K2 and my other rx too! How can I
identify this station (I haven't heard any call letters yet)? And if I
can, is it illegal? And if illegal, can I do something about it (I
think I already know the answer to this one!)
