Hi folks, took my K1 portable for first time last week in North Wales and
had some fun with a 100 foot long wire and Kat1 tuner. (Good job farmer
wasn't around since LW made his field limited headroom!) Made some
contacts on 40m using the caravan battery for power. However, had a funny
thing one evening. Heard a birdie at about 7.030 which was unstable in
frequency and seemed to drift around as I moved my hand around or moved the
antenna around so presumably it was some sort of locally generated
oscillation. I changed the antenna so that the LW was fed by a short run
(2m) of coax and the birdie vanished.

Any ideas what it was in case I get it again.

I've only been licensed a few months and this was my first /P from my
touring caravan. It was great fun sitting outside the van in the sun with
the K1 and enjoying a bit of ham radio fun. The K1 amazement factor hasn't
worn off yet! Worked my first SM and he was using a K1 also.
