[Elecraft] OT sprite propagation

Hi folks,

I was listening on 40 meters a couple of three weeks ago,
This was shortly after storms in Indiana ate several of my trees.
An hour or two after a nasty lightning storm passed, while
listening to weak signals (on an indoor antenna), there was a
click, and signal levels jumped up a lot.  This happened several
times.  In each case the signal levels would fade after several
tens of seconds.  Since the K2 wasn't fried, I assume that a
blue jet or sprite from the thunderstorm dumped a lot of charge
into the ionosphere.

Is this old news?  I don't recall seeing much on this propagation
mode.  Search www.sciam.com for info on blue jets.
