This is very good advice.  You might want to even try a cheap kit if they
have one or maybe take a look at a kit from Ramsey
(http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/).  They also have a little blurb on
soldering and kit building at
http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/sitepages/pdf/kitbuilding2kE.pdf.  There
are other kit makers as well, but this was the only one off the top of my
head.  Spending $15 to $30 on kit that you can use afterwards to gain the
experience to tackle the K1 is a good investment.
