I don't think you are missing anything, Paul. The main concern is to NOT
have leads/solder fillets sticking up in the area where L33 will be
installed on the bottom.
Press on!

Subject: [Elecraft] Installing BFO Xtal X3 for the K2
| I'm trying to fathom the special instruction on
| how to install BFO crystal X3; I don't see how
| inserting the leads thru the PC board holes,
| clipping and bending them over and then soldering
| them will prevent interference with the later
| install of L33, when compared to the normal (my
| normal) method of installing the crystal,
| soldering with a minimum amout of solder (so the
| solder's flush with the holes - most having been
| "wicked into" the PC board holes), and then
| clipping the leads as close to the board as
| possible. What am I missing here? It's probably
| staring me in the face but I'm not getting it.
|
| Thanks!
| Paul (ser. 3640)
