[Elecraft] Capacitor Lead Lengths - Always Critical?

Hi
It is ok for the caps to be a little above the board. If you try to push =
them down too much the leads will break off at the body of the cap. This =
will usually happen when the lead is heated to make the solder joint. =
Either bend the leads to match the holes or just press the cap down as =
far as it will go with out pressing overly hard then spread the leads on =
the back so it will not fall off then solder. Some of the caps will end =
up about 1/16 to 1/8 in above the board and that's OK.

Subject: [Elecraft] Capacitor Lead Lengths - Always Critical?
I've started to install the capacitors on the RF=20
board. Installing some of the small blue NPO=20
capacitors (e.g., C154 and C144), it's not really=20
possible to get them installed flush with the PC=20
board, because the distance between the PC board=20
holes is quite a bit greater than the distance=20
between the component leads. =20
Bending the leads a bit to form small "elbows" in=20
them to match up with the holes in the PC board=20
leaves the body of the capacitors about 3/16"=20
above the surface of the board. Is this OK, or=20
will it result in some kind of undesired circuit=20
coupling? (Unlike the instructions to install=20
some other capacitors, there's no special=20
cautionary note about the "bulk" installation of=20
capacitors I'm doing now, per the second=20
instruction on page 49 of the manual.)
If it's not OK, any suggestions as to how to get=20
these kinds of components flush mounted without=20
damaging them?
Thanks kindly,
Paul
