[Elecraft] K2 rf gain control problem

Guy:
This is not normal. Your control is opening for a second while you turn
it; the swiper is losing contact with the resistive material. I had a
similar problem. Basically the control shaft deteriorated into small
pieces, which messed things up. You will almost certainly have to replace
the control, which is a doable job. Once you put a new control in place,
it might be a good idea to place appropriately sized nylon washers between
the knobs and the panel. This keeps side torques from inadvertently being
applied as you turn the knob that can cause the shaft to wear and self
destruct. I found just such nylon washers available in my neighborhood
hardware store. They are just the size and color of the knobs, and you
don't even know they are there.

best wishes, and good luck,
