The same is true of caps (other than electrolytic, or other polarized
caps). Many of them go up against other parts that makes reading their
values after install hard if not impossible if they aren't oriented the
"right" way. I always look to see which way the value will be the
easiest to read, just in case I need to double-check later to be sure I
didn't install the wrong part.

It doesn't matter electrically, but experienced builders will make sure
all resistor and inductor codes can be read easily without having to
rotate the board 180 degrees per component.
