[Elecraft] New to K2

While this would be doable, I believe it would be somewhat frustrating.
You could not test the options until the K2 is built. By themselves, the
options are just collections of parts on circuit boards with no use even
elsewhere. True, you would get lots of practice soldering, etc. But even
some of the option instructions assume you have access to and have built
the K2. For example, parts identification details, toroid winding
instructions, etc. is in the primary K2 manual, and minimal in the options
instructions. You could download the K2 manual for study, however...

Why not "save up" the $$ you would spend on options for several months to
purchase the basic K2? Then you'd have a nice, usable radio to be enjoyed
while you save again for the options?

Just a thought... but I know, sometimes you have to do what you have to
do! Congratulations on the new harmonic!

        Subject: [Elecraft] New to K2

My YL has decided to grant me my wish of a K2. However, funding is
short (harmonic on the way). My idea is to get and build the options, one
at a time each month. Once that is done we'll see what it will take out of
the bank to get the main unit.
I beleave this method will keep me on track with "savoring the
moment" and taking my time with the building. I'm guessing I'll be ready
for the BIG one around winter.
Has anyone else built theirs like this? I was wondering other
builders might have for advice on this subject.

                                        tnx and 73's Damon KC5CQW
