[Elecraft] Starting out early in Ham Radio?

My father was a hi-fi nut and he used to build equipment (there wasn't the 
ready-made gear in those days, and what there was couldn't be bought on a 
teacher's salary.) I was fascinated by the small components, the resistors 
with their coloured stripes and the tubes with fascinating stuff inside 
them. That sparked an interest in electronics, rather than ham radio, but I 
suppose it explains why my radio interest is more to do with building and 
experimenting rather than operating.
