My feelings on this subject are based on my own experiences at the age of 5
(1960) - which I can remember very clearly - with my father who build a tiny
radio for a guy in hospital. I even remember he was using Ersin multicore
solder, because I asked what it was and played endlessly with the dispenser.
I was absolutely fascinated and really wanted to play with the radio itself,
but but not allowed to. I now know that he must have used wire-ended
subminature tubes because the whole thing fitted in a box the size of an
altioids tin.
I'm sure it was that experience that got me interested in radio and that has
been with me for over 40 years.
The challenge is to find a way of exciting that interest, if I can, into my
own children.

Tony
