Stuart,
As WD0FHC in Minnesota, I had an original Hybrid Quad (before
it went to Canada) up for 4 years with no problems - except
for the day it got buried in a snow drift that went up to the
roof of the house :-(
Otherwise it always worked.........
Quote:-
The photos are not large enough to see if the element is true
quad style
with loading. The other elements are clearly Yagi type, but
may be
shortened by loading.
Unquote:
The director is an enloaded dipole, the reflector is a
shortened quad - they are both endloaded with tapped coils. At
each tap there is a capacity hat formed by aprrox 6 rods - I
think mine were about 5" long!!. Resonance can be altered by
altering the length of one rod. It is quite sensitive and has
good directivity.
It enabled me to keep my skeds with ZS6CY and ZE1CU and a few
other places with good regularity. This was from 1977 to 1981.
I don't remember where we wre in the sunspot cycle :-(
Does this info help??
