To add on to Tom's comments, try to find out if the 5 dB of gain claimed
includes the 3 dB gain of ground reflection in the Fresnel Zone.  Many
antennas are spec'd to include ground reflection gain to inflate their
performance.

Even 3 dB gain, however is the equivalent of doubling power.   In some
climates the Quad may be a problem to keep going in icy weather, while in
warmer climates they are easy to home brew from easily available bamboo
spreaders, and wire is easier to find than metal tubing for a gain antenna.

Not to be overlooked, check out the Moxon Rectangle, and similar VK2ABQ type

footprint, and simple construction like a Yagi.
