[Elecraft] Split Personality of K2

Dear OM's:

I can appreciate the two separate "double box" designs for K2/KAT2/KBT2 and KPA100/KAT100.  However, does anyone out there just change the two different tops?  Last year's K2/100 CQ review says this can be done...by just removing and reinstalling six screws and plugging together a few connectors." I realize I could just power down the integrated K2/100 and hook it up to the Olds battery, but that would leave me without an antenna tuner exactly where I believe I need it the most, QRP into a 101" vertical.  I don't feel a need for the KAT100 at this point. Also, has anybody with the "two-top" setup, found thumbscrews to facilitate the change over and avoid screwdriver scratches on the finish
