My reflections....and perspective.
I had a chance to do WPX from a contest station which is about two hours away. I wll describe the station. A 756PROII and a 765PRO. Alpha amp on one and a ACOM 1000 on the other (The ACOM is a wonderfull amp). 4-square on 80 (what an antenna). 3-elements on 40 at 110 feet. 1/4 wave vertilce on 160 with 8 beverages that work on 80 and 40. Force 12 mega beams at 75 feet and the other at 99 which can be slaved together or apart. Turned seperately. A Force-12 c3 at 30 foot to the west. Caolina Windom.
Now we have that over, I stayed until Saturday night and came home for the rest of the weekend. After saying hi to the wife, I went out to the shack and turned on the K2. Now I have a TH6 at 65 feet, 80 and 40 meters dipoles at 45 feet and an Inverted L with one counterpoise. Hot Station! Right.
Well, I started working station on 40 meters barfoot with the K2. Just have to line up the VFOs and go between the two. Worked quite a few SA stations.
The next day, I got out to the shack for the last hour and using 100 watts...kicked but and took names. That was fun. Worked 20,15, and 10. I ended up in less that two hours of dinking around with WPX on the K2 with around 185 Qsos.
Now, I am going to go out on a limb here, but I found listening to the K2 to be less tedious. It was sweet to my ears. I found the ICOM rig to be a little more rough, a little more edgy. It might be all perception, but I felt more at easy with the K2 that the ICOM.
Reason? Maybe I am a head case...I dunno. It was just easier to copy, the sound was fuller, and there wasn't that edge to it. I had more fun on the K2.
What do you think? Oh, by the way, I am take the K2 out to the super station the next time.
