Since several poeple asked about this, I have taken a hard look at things.
I just finished testing a software routine that can put the unit in a mode
that effectively bypasses it.  The audio path is still through the DSP
module.

The current drain drops from about 65 mA to under 10 mA under these
conditions.  I measure between 4 mA and 8 mA, so 10 mA should be a safe
number.

I know 10 mA is still a power drain, but do you think this level of current
drain would be acceptable?
