Gave this a try last night, but have hit a couple of snags.
Here's the story so far.
Used radioshack multimedia headset catallog number 33-1171.
Took a small project box, and mounted two 1/8 inch jacks and a rocker
switch. got a piece of four conductor + a braid mic cable and wired as
follows.
8-pin # connection
1 through 0.1uf cap to tip of mic jack
2 one side of rocker switch
3 nc
4 nc
5 through 10k resistor to tip of mic jack
6 nc
7 braid around pin 1 conductor to gnd mic jack
8 tied to seven tied to other side of rocker switch
Symptoms of problems follow.
plug box into k2 mic connector, mic into box, vfo knob will not tune
If k2 is turned off, and connected as above, when turned on, elecraft is
displayed, and receiver never comes on.
After further checking, I realized that the mic plug on the headset is a
stereo plug. I suspect that either tip or ring is audio, and the other is
power for the element. If this makes sense, are there any tests I can
perform with a simple dvm and the headset to confirm which is which?
Looked on the rs web site, and no manual or diagram. Headset comes in a
plastic bag, with no paperwork.
Any help appreciated.
