Yes, Paul--
Look at http://www.powerwerx.com in, IIRC, La Mirada, CA. Their site gives
a nice overview of _most_ of the Anderson line that's of interest to
hams. If you can get http://www.andersonpower.com to work, they (used to)
have other colors, and several different sizes of their larger, fork-lift
type connectors, in the 120A, 175A and larger sizes. Mostly, we hams
-especially in DCS and other organizations connected to RACES/ARES - look
for 15A or 30A connectors (that are all inter-connectible, and fit the same
housings, as do the 45A ones for #10 wire.)
PowerWerx also now carries the West Mountain RigRunner power strips, that
put the 15/30/45A connectors together with ATC (auto-style) fuses and
open-fuse indicating LED's. I suspect they will sell a lot of those, in 5,
8, and 12-position sizes; 5's mostly for mobile installations, 8's and 12's
for 12V stations with several accessories to feed. See
http://www.westmountainradio.com for more detail, including the
Over/OK/Under-voltage LEDs and squeaker alarm features.
I have no connection to either of these, besides satisfied customer of
PowerWerx and jealous of the power strips (why'nt I think of
that? Slick!) We did a group buy last year, and are putting together
another now, from PowerWerx, for the Pasadena, Xerox, CalTech and JPL radio
clubs. They're happy to share the price break, and it helps get many of us
wired up inter-operably, even if only through adapters to whatever scheme
we had before.
I previously used the little ARES 'standard' Molex, up to 8A or so, and
looking at Home Power magazine <http://www.homepower.com >, had started
using the (big, yellow) 20A 250V NEMA standard plugs, sockets, and cord
caps. If a good way could be found to put the PowerPoles in a standard
hardware-store wall-box, I think more people would use them in their
remote-cabin, PV and battery, type installations. If you aren't on the
grid to start with, you are more likely to use RV-style 12V appliances and
such, so there's a market there for them. Some folks with an inverter run
their 120VAC from the inverter into an ordinary 5-15 duplex outlet in the
same double-gang box, which I'm not so sure is to code, nor a Good Idea...
