I also run a loop...a 40m vertical loop fed at the bottom, about 12 feet off 
the ground. A quarter wave matching section of 75ohm RG-11 coax provides an 
excellent match (1.06:1 at 7.040MHz). For cross country communications, it 
is the best antenna I have used on 40m and low noise is a definite benefit.
