I have K2 #2221 and seem to have plenty of audio.  I normally run with
the RF gain wide open and the AF gain at about the 9 o'clock position. 
For really strong signals I either turn down in RF gain or hit the
attenuator/turn off pre-amp depending upon the band, 160-30 pre-amp off;
20-10 pre-amp on.  For really weak signals I'll open the AF gain but
almost never more than 12 o'clock.
