K1 SN 1384 (30m & 17m w/ KAT1) is on the air and fully operational. =
Thanks to all that post to this reflector, I got all of the information =
I needed and all of my questions answered without needing to post a =
single message! Many thanks to Wayne and Eric for an OUTSTANDING kit! =
The building experience was fantastic, took me less than 15 hours to =
build and tune it. =20
The only problem I encountered was installing D3 in the KAT1. The pad =
spacing is extremely tight for a 1N34A, and I broke it. Fortunately =
this is a very common part and I was able to get a new one (10 actually =
due to packaging) at a local electronics store and finish the project.
I haven't done any real electronic construction for about 10 years, so I =
made sure I had the equipment suggested, including a new tip for the =
iron and some genuine K44 solder. The first section of construction =
quickly got me back into the building mode and everything went very =
smooth and quick. I am quite happy that I decided to start with a K1 to =
get back in to building due to the simpler design and getting to use my =
"creation" much faster. I won't be in a hurry when I build the K2.
Thanks again,
John
