Unless the problems are configuration errors with the server and/or browser.
A common case is incorrect MIME types for downloadable binaries, usually on
the server. WWW Servers usually send files by default as text/plain or
text/html. For a browser (or FTP client in ASCII mode) it is permissible,
and usually intended, that during the transfer certain aspects of a text file
are converted (like line breaks, who use the ASCII control characters for
CR, LF or CR and LF, depending wheter you are on a Mac, Unix or MS/DOS
computer.

Now if incorrectly a binary file is advertised as text file, and the browser
does convert it, well, guess what happens to binary files ....

[Please note that I do not claim this to be the case with the Spectrogram
download. In fact, I havent even tried to download that yet]
