I really like the Palm Paddle, I use it in the mobile, although next time I
take my K1 traveling it will certainly replace the Whiterook I tend to use
for that purpose. But the aluminum case on the K1 doesn't hold magnets very
well!
What I did in my car was to glue a pair of magnets to the underside of the
ash tray lid (watching polarity to match the Palm magnetic mount). This
makes for a nice firm mounting.

You might try this on the K1. This has the added advantage that the magnets
on the inside are going to swamp any effect the magnets on the outside might
have on the VFO so you can adjust accordingly and not have things change in
the field.
