[Elecraft] [Elecraft]RE: Can the K2's "8R HOLD" mode be made permament?

Why at all change this? The only Reason i can think of is to use
the saved space for new code in the firmware (?).
I use 8R Hold for keying my Transverters or my Amp or my Ameritron QSK
T/R Switch (which then
keys the Amp).
Why should I want my Transverter or my QSK-Amplifier to switch to
receive during the
T-R (QSK) delay time of K2?
Did I miss something?

If you have an opion on the K2's "8R HOLD" mode, please read on. We're
considering making
this permanent (in some future firmware revision), rather than require
the operator to specifically enable it.
Background
The K2 presently has a firmware option to select "8R HOLD" mode. If
enabled,
it forces the 8-volt receive line to stay low during the entire T-R
(QSK) delay time. If
you don't enable 8R HOLD, the firmware reverts to its original behavior,
which allows
the 8-volt receive line to go back high during key-up intervals,
regardless of how long
the QSK delay is.
This has no effect on the K2 itself either way.
8R HOLD mode is recommended in all of our manuals in cases where you're
using
the 8R line to key an amplifier or transverter. It allows you to prevent
excessive relay
switching, especially in CW mode, simply by dialing in a longer T-R
delay.
Question:
Is anyone using hardware of their own design that *requires* the
original 8R
behavior?
If not, we may make 8R HOLD mode permament.
Thanks,
Wayne
