[Elecraft] K2 build question: R1 potentiometer seating

Page 14 of the manual says, "R1 must be seated flat against the board
before soldering."

The leads of the pot are too big, near the pot "body," to fit through =
the=20
holes. This prevents seating the pot flat against the board.

Has anybody dealt with this problem?
