After making the final alignment and initial tests, I fired up my new
KAT100-1. It came to life and worked like a champ. I put it through the
paces in the ATU AUTO mode into a 50 ohm dummy load, and the relays took off
automatically to seek the proper settings on all bands. I am amazed at the
ability of this tuner to take only 2 watts to seek the proper settings. The
anti-slide brackets really work and keep the K2 firmly on top of the tuner.
Because I used the two DB9M connectors that came with the KPA100 to connect
the K2/100 with my computer to run the K2 Remote program, I would have had to
connect the KAT100 to the existing K2/100 DB9M. I did not want to run two
cables into that one connector and thereby eliminate the possibility of
picking up stray RF, so I bought another DB9M. Now I am using a single two
foot cable between the K2 and tuner.
I changed out the 220 ohm resistor (R19) on the bottom of the RF Board to a
2.7K resistor (as recommended by Wayne) and did another CAL PLL. BTW, the
ETS15 tilt stand puts the K2/100 at the proper eye level. It just plainly
looks good, and I highly recommend it. This is another superb Elecraft
product! Roy Morris W4WFB K2/100 #2225
