[Elecraft] bug mode on K1?

Hi. I sold my underutilized K1 to a friend and he has asked me by email:

"I wonder if there is a pseudo-bug mod available?  i.e., manual dashes and
automatic dots
when used with a paddle".

Can this be done? He could not find anything in the manual, so if anyone
has a tweak or idea (small external keyer required to do so?) it would be
nice to do
it for him with the rig just as it is - he is one of the last of the
railroad morse ops and is active
in the morse society/landline code sort of thing.
